A chipped tooth may not seem like a big deal, but it could put your tooth at risk of future damage. Chips and cracks can weaken teeth, making them more vulnerable to decay or fracture. Bonding a chipped tooth can strengthen its structure and restore its original appearance. At Montclair Dental Care, we offer composite tooth bonding services to our patients in Oakland, California, and nearby communities.
Tooth bonding is a simple cosmetic treatment that has multiple uses. Dr. Kenneth Childers may recommend composite tooth bonding to:
The same composite bonding material is used for white fillings to treat cavities.
Dental bonding is a non-invasive treatment that provides instant results in repairing damaged teeth. To repair a chipped tooth, Dr. Childers will start by cleaning and roughening the tooth using an etching solution to help the bonding material stick. We’ll then color-match the bonding paste to the color of your tooth to achieve a natural-looking finish. The paste is applied to your tooth in layers and molded to take on the shape of your tooth. Each layer is dried with a curing light to harden it onto your tooth. Once the desired look is achieved, we’ll polish your tooth to finalize the treatment. You’ll leave our clinic with a fully restored, functional tooth.
Bonding a chipped tooth makes it stronger to resist chips and cracks in the future. It protects it from enamel erosion and decay, restores its usefulness, and renews your smile’s attractive appearance. For the bonding to last, we recommend not chewing on hard foods and not using your teeth like tools. With good oral care, your tooth will retain its attractive appearance for years.
